Well, it's been the kids' half term this week. Lucky for teachers, not so sure for others.
During my bus journey, five teenage boys got on the bus, came upstairs, and sat near me. One lad decided to open up the front panel where the destination sign is. He thought it would be funny to change the destination so he could bamboozle waiting passengers at the next bus station. Then he had a better idea. Why stop there? Why not change the route number as well? His friends were laughing their heads off.
I felt it was my duty as a responsible adult citizen to point out the error of their ways.
"You are so bad!" I sniggered.
Besides, why should I deprive myself of free entertainment?
At the bus station, the boys looked down at the puzzled passengers who couldn't quite work out why that particular bus route would be at that station, and why it would be headed in the opposite direction. We all thought it was hilarious.
The bus driver realised what the boys had done and changed the destination and route numbers from downstairs. Then he stormed upstairs looking for the culprits, but they had scampered to the back of the bus. The frustrated driver shouted to no one in particular, "Stop that! It's not funny!" and went back to his driving. Poor sod!
Well, if they're going to give kids a whole week off school, they're going to have to give them something to entertain themselves or else...
It did make for a fun bus journey though.
