Harmless Fun

Last night I told my mother how I'd woken up in the middle of the night and seen light streaming in the room. It was so bright I thought it was daybreak. The light stayed for about a minute then the room returned to darkness.

"That's good!" mum said. "It just shows light is all around us even if we can't see it."

"Yes, we are surrounded by Light. The Light looked as tangible as the sunlight."

"You mean you weren't seeing it with your inner vision, you could see it with your physical sight?"

"Yes. I wonder though whether you would have been able to see it if you were present," I said.

"Probably not. But I'm not surprised that you saw the light because every night before I go to bed I read the affirmation: 'The light of God surrounds me; The love of God enfolds me; The power of God protects me; The presence of God watches over me. Wherever I am, God is - and all is well!'"

"Is that affirmation from Unity?"

"Yes, it is."

"Powerful stuff. You do realise that this Light is in all realities, right?"

"What do you mean?"

At the time, my mother and I were watching Spooks, which is a drama series that follows the work of MI5 Intelligence Officers in their fight to prevent various crimes and terror attacks.

"Well, take this programme we're watching now, the Light is in it. That's why the story lines have no effect on me because I know Love is in all realities."

"But this is fiction and not the same as what happens in real life!"

"Actually, there is no difference between fact and fiction because one idea influences another. Haven't you noticed how ideas from books and films have ended up being played out in "real life"? Take the Book of Revelations in the Bible where it talks about Armageddon. We now seem to be experiencing the calamities spoken about in the Bible."

"But Revelations is prophecy."

"I wouldn't know about that," I said. "All I know is that no matter what the reality, whether it's in books, films, plays, in people's thoughts and dreams, the Light is already there."

"God can't be in pornography, surely? God is only in good things."

"Mum, the God I believe in is in all things including pornography. That's what omnipresence means, that which exists in all time and all realities. Light doesn't judge anyone or pick and choose what It should be in, It exists in all things."

"I still think God is only in good things."

"OK mum. Anyway, the reason why I can watch Spooks without being influenced is because I KNOW there is only Light which protects me from any of the ideas and beliefs. Spooks is only harmless fun."

I went back to watching Spooks. I noticed mum wasn't concentrating, her attention was elsewhere. When the programme finished she asked me what it was about.

"I have no idea but it was fun though."

Light is all and in all.
